I wore this dress for my beach wedding.

I picked this dress for my beach wedding because I knew that it would look beautiful blowing in the wind. Even though it has many layers, it was very comfortable even in the heat of the Riviera Maya. I had no alterations done and the size 2 fit me perfectly. I am 5'7" and a 34B. I wore 4 inch heels and the dress just touched the ground in the front.

~ Meant to Be ~

This dress was simply meant to be. Nothing else compared, once I laid eyes on it. I was engaged early in 2011, only a couple of months after BHLDN's launch. I started looking at wedding dresses right away, tried a couple on at a local salon, had a picture in my head of what I was looking for, and wasn't finding a dress that matched my mind's eye. I came across BHLDN by accident in an internet search for "vintage wedding dresses", ..vintage, romantic, flowy, ethereal being key words in my search. Catherine Deane's Cascading Goddess Gown was one of the first few dresses I saw on this site and I couldn't believe someone actually made a dress that completely fit every detail I could have dreamed of in a dress. I am totally not the 'wedding dress' type, and am not easily impressed by them, but this one was so breathtakingly gorgeous, unique, feminine. Nothing else even came close to comparing once I saw this one. I went with my faith and ordered it in a size 0, following the size chart provided. I've never been so excited to get a package than when it arrived the very next day. I have to say that this dress is even more breathtakingly beautiful in person. It is the perfect creamy ivory color, and hand stitched..I mean the detail in this dress is incredible. The roping on the bodice, and the long chiffon layers, there's a softness to the dress and even a shimmery sheen. I tried it on, and it fit PERFECTLY, like a glove. I only needed to alter the length and that was it! The seamstress who did my alterations told me that she'd never seen a dress so gorgeous in her whole career and that mine was her most favorite to have worked on. She said that it was pretty easy to alter the length, she was able to take it apart at the waist and pull it up a few inches, so as not to disturb the chiffon layers. She also put a simple hook and eye bustle into the back which was gorgeous and billowy as well.
When my wedding day finally came, on December 15th, 2012, the week before Christmas, I could not wait to show everyone, especially my husband. He was dumbfounded when we had our 'first look' shoot, told me that I looked like an angel, and that it was perfect and completely nothing he'd ever seen before. The entire night was filled with gasps and asking me where I got my dress, and how unique and gorgeous it was. I literally want to wear this dress every single day! It is so comfortable, there is a layer of silk that touches your skin first, so soft. The next layer of tulle gives the dress just the right amount of volume, and lots of warmth (I was married on the Delaware River in December and was completely warm outside taking pictures), and the strands of chiffon do actually float when you move, walk, and dance. Very angelic and ethereal feeling. I danced all night in this dress, very easy to move in! The bodice has boning inside so you don't need to wear a bra if you don't want to, however, it is comfortable if you want to wear one, like I did. It's true waisted, so the bodice starts at just the right spot at your waist and the layers begin at just the right spot, so your slimmest area is accentuated. I wore the Beaming Blossoms Sash, as shown in the model's picture, and also the Auroral Vapor Heels, and got just as many compliments on them as well. The entire ensemble together was beyond perfection, and helped to create the "vintage, ethereal, feminine, romantic" vision for my wedding into reality. I wouldn't change a thing, and could not recommend this dress, or BHLDN more. So many thanks BHLDN! You gave me my dream wedding vision come true! My new favorite store!! :*)

A lovely Dress

I ordered this dress for my wedding after seeing it online and falling in love. It's the only dress I even tried on.
I ordered a size 2, I have a large ribcage on a small frame, and I am small busted. It was roomy, but I had my seamstress take it in. I'm short waisted and the bodice ended right at the bottom of my ribcage. I wasn't surprised by this after reading online reviews. A wide sash helped delineate my waist. If you have an athletic build I would recommend adding a belt or sash to soften the straight up and down look.
I was able to bustle the dress. My seamstress added individual hook and eyes to each fabric strip that was too long and she shortened the underskirt by pleating it upwards. Think of how Belle's dress in Beauty and the Beast is scalloped along the bottom. With the fabric panels laying over the shortened skirt you couldn't see the pleating and it helped keep the fabric wisps flowing.
I absolutely loved this dress, even though it needed quite a bit of altering on the skirt for me to wear it with flip flops. I assume that any wedding dress would benefit from altering to bring it to a proper fitting through the bust and waist area.
I'm 5'6", 115lbs and 32",24",30". I really like that the skirt was full enough to soften my angular frame.

Gorgeous but not for all

I ordered a size 6. I am 36-28-37. It was a bit lose but I think 4 would have been small. It's a gorgeous dress in terms of fabric, especially the lower half. Something about the bust though, and lines make you look a bit wide (as if you have a wide rib cage). I didn't look right on the chest area too, it didn't set tight, it stood out a bit. So I think it's best on smaller sizes, or taller girls so that proportionally the bust looks smaller.

The perfect fit (almost)

I was a bit nervous about buying a gown online and from so far away, but I needn't have!
I'm usually a UK/AU size 8, and ordered a size 0 which worked out well. Where the waist sits is just right, so the gown is extremely comfortable and you can eat as much as you want, no spanx required.
The only downside was that even with 3" heels on the skirt needed to be taken up by about 10" so it could just skim the ground without getting too grubby.
Overall, the quality of the dress is most excellent, photographs beautifully, and the style suited our bush cathedral wedding perfectly.

My Dream Dress!

I wore this beautiful, ethereal dress for my garden wedding this past September. I couldn't have found a more perfect dress!
I am 5'4" and normally wear a 0 or 2, however, I had a little bit of trouble getting the fit right. I tried on this dress in Houston last winter and purchased a size 0, as advised by the fitting specialist. When I received the 0 it was much too small and wouldn't zip up, so I exchanged it for a size 2. Even with the correct size the zipper was a little bit sticky. I also had the bottom of the dress hemmed because it was much too long on me. There wasn't a good way to bustle the longer layers of the dress, so I ended up just tying them around my waist for the dancing, which did the trick.
All of these adjustments (which are pretty standard for any wedding dress) were well worth the effort as the dress looked great and was so comfortable on the big day!

I cannot believe I ordered this dress and it was made for my figure! I'm a size 10 and 5'8", it flows beautifully and it hides everything I wanted it to hide. LOL! Completely perfect for my vintage hippie day!!! It is everything I was looking for and more and cannot wait to walk down the isle in it.

Absolutely Wonderful

This dress was everything I wanted and more! It looks even more amazing in person. The dress also fits true to size. I'm 5'8 and about 115 pounds and the size 2 fit perfectly. There is no other dress that could even come close to the beauty of this dress.

Beautiful!

After discovering that the dress that I had was too short, I was on a mad dash to find a dress for our May 5 wedding. I was particularly concerned about the length of the dress, as I'm 6'2". I called BHLDN to ask about the length and they told me that the model wearing the dress is 5'10" and has 3" heels on. That made me feel more confident that this could be the dress.
I received the dress and as the other ladies say, it is a little more yellow than it seems in the pictures but it's beautiful. There is also the slight sheen to it which also adds a nice touch. I usually wear an 8 or 10, so I ordered an 8 and the length is great but the bodice is definitely going to need to be taken in. The dress is beautiful on its own, but a sash really completes the look.
Overall, I'm super happy with the dress and relieved to have found it just in time!

Adorable if you are a size 00!

I loved this dress, but it has soooo much fabric on the skirt that it made me a look massive, and I am a size 4. I also found the color to be a bit too yellow, vs cream.
I retured mine, but this is a gorgeous dress, and again, if you are size of a pencil it will look great.

Stunning easy breezy dress

I wanted something simple and clean, with some character for my casual wedding. This was the perfect dress for me. As I read some of the reviews, it sounded like they ran a bit large. I ordered my usual size 6, and ordered one size down, size 4, as the other ladies mentioned. They were right, the size 4 fit perfectly! I didn't bother trying on the 6. The length was a bit too long for me as I am not very tall, but with slight strap and length alterations, it was perfect!! With an experienced tailor, alterations shouldn't be an issue. I wanted maximum flowing movement, so I made sure to alter it so none of the tulle or too much of the layers were dragging on the floor, otherwise, it just bunches up on the ground and makes it look very heavy. I left the 2 back "wisp" layers longer so there was a train like feel, like in the photo. This dress was very easy to move and dance around in all night. Only downside was there is no bustle so when the dress is dragging, it gets a bit tiresome to hold the back part of the dress up by hand. This dress photographs extremely well too and really was a pleasure to wear with minimal accessorizing.

One of a Kind

I searched and searched for a simple gown that still possessed a 'wow' factor. As soon as I came across this dress, I knew it was the one.
I'm about 5'9 and fairly thin. I have a small bust. I normally wear a size 4, but I ordered a size 6 to be safe. With about 1 1/2in of fabric dragging, the length was spot-on. The bodice was a bit baggy in both the bust and rib cage area, so I plan to take that in. Given my height, I think this size is as low as I can go.
The quality is fantastic. The silk feels great, and the countless layers in the dress make it so unique. It almost seems angelic. I can't wait to wear it next summer!

Just not quite right

The panels are exquisite and the bodice is so unique. However, the overall sizing and fit were off, at least for my body. I ordered it in a six using the size guide and it was enormous, espeically in the bodice. Then I ordered it in a four, and while it fit around the chest, the lower bodice still was not fitting properly. It was very boxy and unflaterring. Because of the delicate and intricate way the bodice is structured, it just couldn't be altered.

according to the size chart i am a size 2, so that's what i ordered and it fits perfectly. it's good the straps are easily adjustable, because i will have to take them in a little.
i ordered the belt as shown and could not be more excited to wear this dress for my wedding. i was nervous that it might not be formal enough, but it's absolutely perfect. the quality is superb, it feels good on, i feel good in it, and it's even more beautiful in person than in the photos.
i couldn't photograph the bottom, but trust me it's stunning! i am one happy bride!

Very pretty dress

The dress was gorgeous and fit true to size. I've tried on JCrew dresses also in a 4...and they fit the same way, as a size 4 should. The top detail is really pretty and it flows just like the video. I really do like this dress - especially with a sash. It pretty much needs one. I think black is gorgeous. With all that being said, the large amount of crinolin underneath the gown is not easily seen here in the image or the video. The crinolin/tool underneath kept bunching up in the back of the dress and looked like I was dragging a load of cotton balls or something under the back of my dress. Not pretty. If that had been removed, it would've been much better. The only other comment I'll make is that I have hips, so the bottom made me look hip-heavy. If you have curves, beware.

Lovely, but...

I wanted so badly to love this dress, but it just wasn't meant to be. I sized down from a 10 to an 8 (38-30-39, 34D), but there was still too much fabric in the bodice, and it just looked awkward at the waist. The skirt is beautiful, but it's heavier than I expected, and I had a hard time turning around in it (even excusing the length). I'm devastated to have to send it back because it's a gorgeous dress.

perfect.

I was nervous about buying a dress I wasn't able to try on first, but this was so much more appealing than any of the dresses I'd seen in the bridal shops. It is as beautiful as is appears in the photos. It's light and airy and very flattering. The details are impeccable, I love the petticoat, and the dress is beautifully made. I am so happy with it.
I ordered a size larger than I normally wear, based on the previous reviews. It fits very well around the ribcage and waist, but was large on the top, particularly on the bust. However I did like the support cups sewn into the bust area, and the straps are made to be easily adjusted. I love that even with the layers the dress is not heavy. I am also very happy the design is forgiving enough that my waist is perfectly accented without me having to wear 18 pounds of Spanx.
I could not be more in love with this dress. I can't stop looking at it.

The gown I'd always dreamed of wearing

For brides undeterred by the trial-and-error process of ordering a wedding gown online, I recommend this one wholeheartedly. The gown itself is made with remarkable attention to detail. The color is exactly as it appears in the photos, a pale creamy ivory. The roping has a hand-stitched look and it's very flattering-- the bodice ends right at the slimmest part of the waist. The delicate layers have a subtle sheen, a detail I didn't notice in the photos. In addition to the skirts beneath, there are nineteen panels of different lengths which give the dress a lot of movement. It makes a nice swishing sounds when I move. It appears airy and light, but the dress is actually quite substantial, making it appropriate for a fall or winter celebration.
The trouble we had with this gown was in finding the right fit. My mom and I ordered a 6 to start with, and it was bigger than expected. Next we tried a 4, which fit well, but we sent it back because of a quality issue-- the rope stitching on the front of the bodice was off-center by an inch. Next we ordered a different 4, but it was likely a 2 mislabeled as a 4 because it was much smaller than the other. In the end, the fourth time was the charm! For any other dress, we wouldn't have gone to the trouble... but as you'll see, it's so beautiful you may find yourself rather attached to it! I will say that the BHLDN staff was extremely helpful and supportive throughout the sometimes-tedious process.
Now that I've found the right gown, I couldn't be happier with it. I can't wait for my fiance to see me in this gown! I prefer it without the sash pictured. We ordered it to try on but found it looks just as pretty without, since the waistline is so well-defined.
I'd recommend this dress to anyone who is considering it-- the return policy is simple so you've got nothing to lose if you just want to try it on and see how you like it. With the previous dresses, we always spread a white bedsheet on the floor and washed our hands before touching the gowns, just in case we needed to make a return-- you can never be too careful with them, I suppose!
Happy shopping, and good luck!

Beautiful, but runs small

I ordered this dress in a size 0 (my normal size) but when it came I couldn't zip it up past my ribcage! I remeasured myself and double checked the size chart to see if I just ordered the wrong size, but I didn't. I don't know if this dress runs small or the one I got was somehow a mistake, but I was so disappointed. It wasn't just a tight fit-it was about two inches too small. I'm not even close to "well endowed" in the bust area, so perhaps busty women should beware. I'm hesitant to order the next size up because the measurements just seemed so off.
Otherwise the dress is beautiful, floaty and ethereal. I was worried the layers would be overwhelming, but they're perfectly proportioned. I would definitely recommend it, but be prepared to try a few different sizes.
