The perfect dress for an intimate wedding

We had a small and intimite wedding with only 30 guests so when I was looking for my dress, I felt that all those big gowns very over dressed for the event and have been having a very hard time deciding what to wear.
I was so excited when BHLDN opened a bit over a year ago. And when saw this dress, I knew this is IT! It's simple yet different. At first when I receive the dress, I thought it was a bit more yellow that cream but it was super pretty under the natural sunlight and I just LOVE it!
The one thing I have to complain about though will have to be the fit. I am 5'10 so the length was perfect on me. I have my seanstress added more tulles to make it puffier as I think it's not as puffy as the picture shown. The bust part of the dress fit a bit strange (the tip of the bust sort of stick out a bit too much), the tube was a bit tight and the waist was a bit bigger than the measurement. In the end, with the magic hand of my seamstress and $500 extra, it was all good. Some might think that paying $500 on top for alteration is ridiculous but I think anyother dress would just cost as much in alteration anyway and plus I am still paying under $1000 so I am very very happy.

CHEAP zipper

THis is the 4th dress I have sent back to BHLDN. So far I'm not impressed with there dresses. The sizing is always off. Worst of all the zipper in this dress is totally CHEAP. I couldn't zip it up when it was off or on. For $600. they should put in a decent zipper. I do like the styling of this dress and I so sad it hasn't worked out! Even though I now have the right size.

very pretty, as expected.

just received my dress. i ordered a size 4 according to my measurements and it's perfect. I think the length is very good. It is supposed to be tea length, not just below the knee. Before altering the length i would recommend to think twice and check out audrey hepburn pictures. tea length should be between mid calf and the ankle. The fabric is a little more shiny than i thought. The zip is poor quality, i struggled to zip it up even when the dress was on the hanger. Overall i'm very happy with my choice and feel very lucky that it fit!

Love it!

I absolutely love this dress. This is one of the first ones I saw when I began browsing, and even though I explored other options, I kept going back to this one. The detailing is incredible in person and it is made with a high quality fabric. It is even more exquisite in person and the picture does not do the dress nearly enough justice. The reviews said that it runs small in the top. I am pretty small on top already (34B), so I ordered my normal dress size of 4, but it was slightly too large, so I had to have it taken in a bit. I also had to have the hem taken up because it was too long, but post alterations, the dress is perfect and incredibly flattering! I can't wait to wear it!

Beautiful Dress

Like most of the reviewers, I agree this is an adorable dress, and I got the sling backs the model is wearing, which makes me the perfect height to avoid looking too bottom-heavy with the crinoline. The only issue now is that the bodice is quite heavy (there's a built-in bra along with relatively weighty fabric), which makes it hard to get on and off when I'm trying it on without help. The heaviness also makes it feel like the dress is slipping down, and I really don't want to spend my wedding clumsily yanking my dress up or flashing friends and family. I'm hoping to have my seamstress add some straps, but I fear that might ruin the charm of the dress a bit.

The one!

I fell in love with this dress the second I saw it online, so much so that I didn't even try another dress - this was the one! I live in the UK so ordered a size 8 and had it tailored to fit perfectly, rather than run the risk of ordering a 6 and it being too small. I did feel the size 8 was far more generous than I expected though and I probably would have been ok with the 6. I also had to take up the hem, but I expected to after reading other reviews here.
The quality is exceptional but my dressmaker agreed with other reviewers that it should have a more substantial zip to carry the weight of the fabric.
I bought the gloves to match and paired it with a gorgeous pair of Jimmy Choo Ailsa shoes. Perfect dress, perfect day!

Perfect for my intimate wedding

I wore this dress for our April wedding. It was a small event with close friends and family, so I didn't want a traditional long gown that would overwhelm the modest setting. This dress was perfect. The detail is beautiful and added the special touch that made me feel like a bride. The construction was well done and the fit was true to size. There were many other tea length dresses that I found that were beautiful but very expensive, or cheaper, but the quality was poor. This dress was made well, the fabric is gorgeous and it has the lovely details and quality construction I would expect for the price. Plus I ordered it online and avoided the nighmare of the bridal salon!

Perfect!

I saw this dress on line & thought it was beautiful but didn't think it would be the dress I would choose for my wedding. I flew to the Houston store to view all the dresses in person & meet with a stylist in lieu of taking a chance with blindly ordering on line. If possible, I would recommend doing this as all of their items are more beautiful in person as opposed to on line! I loved this dress from the moment I saw it! It is so incredibly beautiful in person! The fabric & detailing is remarkable & it truly is comfortable to wear....not too heavy! The length was perfect on me (hitting mid calf) & I am 5'5. I usually wear a size 4 at Anthro & the 6 fit me perfectly. The top is a bit small/tight which is why I would suggest sizing up if you are bigger up top. I agree with other reviewers that the zipper is flimsy & perhaps beautiful buttons would've been a better fit. The color is exactly what is stated on the website....buttercream....which is exactly what I was looking for. I paired it with the Sunday Best Cardigan, since I will be having a winter wedding, & it just added to the overall cuteness of the dress. BHLDN shipped my dress to me & it arrived really fast (3 days). When it arrived, I feel in love with it all over again!

A few adjustments, but great!

We eloped to Scotland.. so I needed a dress to fit the occasion. This was my dress. I did have to have it altered and added straps (I wore a cover up so you couldn't see the straps).

This is my wedding dress!

I was a little worried about this dress because I am a shapely size 14 and don't like to purchase things without trying them on, but I LOVE this dress. I read a lot of the reviews about it and this is what I've concluded.
If you are small or very thin and have a small chest, this dress will likely flatten out your chest, slide down, or be way too long.
I'm 5' 10" and as I said, a typical size 14 with a 38DD bra size and this dress fits me so well. As I said, I was skeptical because of the model looking thin, but it accents my waist and fits well in the chest (I don't even have to wear a bra with it, which NEVER happens.)

Dream dress

I contacted the BHLDN stylist and was advised to purchase a size 4 and it was a pretty good fit. I knew it had to be taken up a lot (the length was heading towards the ankle!) and the brilliant tailor I used did this by "lifting" the entire length along the rows of horizontal pleats/pintucks to keep a length of fabric at the bottom which worked beautifully. She also put a tiny dart in the corset to make it a little firmer around the bust. The colour is gorgeous - a "sunny" yellow-cream and the fabric has a beautiful sheen. The dress also has a lovely weight to it and a lot of movement as well as the gorgeous tulle layer. I was incredibly happy with my dress and I received a lot of compliments as well as a lot of enquiry as to where I had found it. I teamed this dress with the Well-Mannered Cardigan which perfectly matched the dress (it is far less white than it appears on the website) and completed the vintage look. It was the first dress I saw and loved and the only one I ordered. Great value for money and, although the shipping was expensive, it arrived in Australia in only 4 days. I couldn't have been happier with the Fondant Tea Dress!

Perfect for Someone Else

This dress is adorable. It's made beautifully. You can't get a nicer dress for three times the money or more. The ivory sheen of the fabric is delicious. The lining and interior structure is quite amazing. I wanted it to work on me so badly.
I'm 5'5", 36C, 135lb.s. I usually wear an 8. I was advised to order a 10. The top of the dress fit perfectly. Not tight or binding. But the skirt was very overwhelming on me in a 10. I'm small on the bottom. I wanted some fluff to balance out my bust. But it just made me look dumpy. And the length was barely above my ankles so it added to the "fairy god mother" look. I read other reviews and knew the 8 wouldn't fit my bust. So I had to give up. Luckily there was a perfect match for me in another BHLDN top and skirt.

A Simple, Special Wedding Dress

This was the only dress I ordered from the site because I wanted it to be the one so badly that I put all my eggs in one basket. I am not the rhinestones and satin type, so I fell in love with the simplicity of it. After trying it on, I was even more in love. I ordered my regular dress size, and it fits perfectly. The built-in bodice keeps everything in place-no need to spend your wedding embarrassingly hoisting your dress up every other minute to prevent a peep show. Along with several other vertically challenged reviewers, I will be altering the bottom to be a bit shorter, but the dress lends itself well to this type of alteration, so no worries. I appreciate that a company like bhldn, which has many high-end products, also offers a $600 dress for ladies who fit this unique style, but are working on a budget. It just makes me even more excited for my special day!

Cute Party Dress

Ok, here's what I think...
Color:
perfect creamy ivory
Fabrication:
Because it's a silk/cotton blend, it has a fabulous sheen. It's not flat like the BHLDN pics appear to be.
Sizing:
I'm almost always an 8, but measured to the almost exact specifications of a 10 on the size chart. Despite this, I ordered size 8 in 3 dresses from BHLDN. The other 2 were perfect, but this one barely, and I emphasize BARELY, fit. If I had a chest larger than 34B, I would have had to return for a 10.
Length:
This was confusing for me...I'm 5'10" and this dress was too long! It came to my lower calf & I have to say looked very odd. I expected it to reach lower knee/upper calf, like on the model.
The reason this dress didn't work for me: I am looking for a vintage feel, which this has, but it's just too sweet. With the tiers, ruffles of bricbrac, etc, I felt like a walking cupcake! Perhaps it's more appropriate for a girl in her 20s...not mid-30s, like me.

So close...

This gown is a delightful cream confection. The quality of the fabric is excellent, especially for the price point, the stitching impeccable, and the light detailing of the ric rac and tulle is precious. The creamy silk cotton blend has the slightest bit of sheen, without appearing cheap like satin fabrics. I paired it with the stunning Polka Dot D'Orsay Heels for the ultimate in adorable. I ordered my usual Anthropologie size 2, which was the correct fit in this dress, though due to the weight of the skirt, I felt as if I had to pull the top of the dress up frequently during my try-on. The length was slightly long, hitting me about mid to low-calf (I'm just shy of 5'7"), but could be easily tailored since the bottom of the dress is plain fabric. The biggest issue was with the top of the gown - I have a longish torso and the waist hit me about two inches above my natural waist, resulting in the narrowest part of the dress sitting on my rib cage. I have this problem frequently with Anthropologie dresses, so expected it here at BHLDN. The high waist makes me look wider than I am, and though this dress has a quality corset interior, the cups were small and the straight cut of the top was not flattering to my 32C chest, pressing it down. The dress is simple and beautiful but I also wish it had a button back instead of a zipper... zippers are just cheap overlooked details to me. Very, very close to being exactly what I was looking for, but not quite - this dress needs a slightly longer waist and a sweetheart neckline to be genius!

Just Adorable!

I was very prepared to be disappointed with this dress, since I never seem to look good in high waisted dresses, but I was very pleasantly surprised! The color was a little more yellow than I expected, but I think it just adds to the cheerfulness of this dress. Very cute, I can't wait to wear it!

Disappointed...

I really thought this would be the one, cause I've been looking for a simple tea-length dress, but I was disappointed when I tried it on. The sizing was fine. I ordered the size 4, which is my usual size, and I was worried it would be too small based on the other reviews, but it fit perfectly through the bodice. Just a little bit long, which could easily be adjusted. What I didn't realize from the picture is that the dress is fairly high-waisted, so I looked like a 5-year-old in it. Especially with all the ruffle details. I'm not super tall (5'6") and have an average length torso, so this surprised me. Ah well, will have to keep looking..

beautiful fabric

I just received this dress after waiting a few days longer than expected (the dress was on back order) but once it came I realized it was well worth the wait! The fabric is amazing. So soft to the touch and lightweight! It was however too long. I am 5'6 with very long legs so things being too long usually isn't a problem. I was quite surprised to see how much I am going to need to shorten it, about 2.5 inches. I'm a bigger girl and a dress size 12 so I ordered a 14 because many reviews said that it ran small. I didn't find it to be the case. A 12 would have fit like a glove but I'm not going to send it back, just have it altered. I may add cups into it as well. The interior corset is very nice but didn't do as much as i would have liked. I might add more crinoline to the skirt as well to really make it poof! All in all this dress is beautiful. Perfect for a fun-modern bride.

Perfect dress as is, and to add to

I tried a few dresses from BHLDN, and this is it! I liked the big skirt formality, the playful tea length hem line, and especially the color. I'm fairly pale, and this pale cream really looks good on my skin -better than the stark whites. Also, the detailing is perfect for my style: teensy ruffles and bric-a-brac will go really well with our playful outside reception.
I tried both a size 4 and 6 for this dress. Other size 4 dresses from this site fit really well, but for this one I had to go with a 6 and will have it altered down. The biggest problem for me with the 4 was that it was really tight through the torso. I have a small chest, and not much of a tummy so I'm not sure what that's all about. If I had been in a store, I would have asked for anotehr 4 to try because I felt like part of the problem was a finiky zipper. But, in the end I'll get a custom fit by having the 6 altered anyway ; ) I'm 5'3" so the hemline will come up a few inches- as someone else mentioned the plain bottom makes that easier. Also the chest is going to have to come in quite a bit for me (34A). Unlike the pinwheel dress that I tried, I felt like the top section of this dress was the right length for my frame. The other dress just felt way too long on the top.
The dress is really nice as is (and not too heavy for the summer), but it's definetly a great dress to add to as well. This would be nice with a different color tulle underneath, sash, belt, a brooch on the hip, higher hem line, etc. I also love the idea of showing off a great headpiece and new shoes with out too much competition from a floor length sparkler.
There are a few changes I'm going to see if I can have made, besides basic alterations. I love the idea of making the dress more convertable so I'd like to have the tulle underneath detachable - now the layer is sewn in. That will bring the skirt much closer to the body and hopefully increase the chances of wearing it again! And also I'm going to see if somehow I can have a little bustle detail added so the skirt will sort of bustle back (narrowing in at the knees) to make it less sweet and more cocktail ready in the evening. Wish me luck! If not, as is I'm really pleased. This dress is a great value.

Beautiful Dress/Perfect Fit

I started my search for a dress a few weeks after getting engaged and am so happy I found this one! I wanted something non-formal and non-traditional that would fit my personality and this is spot-on.
The dress arrived just a few days after ordering and the shipping cost was only $25 (I was so surprised). From the moment the box arrived, you knew it was something special. The shipping box was wrapped in a protective overlay. Inside the box, the dress was packaged in a beautiful linen garment bag with a sturdy wood hanger. The dress = gorgeous. The attention to detail is remarkable - from the rickrack to the pleating.
I ordered a size 14 and it fit like a glove - even in the chest (and I have an ample chest). I am 5'4, so the dress is a bit long on me - I'll have to have it shortened several inches to actually look like the length on the model. But overall - it's beautiful and don't be scared if you have a large chest.
I'm going to order the gloves next and I can't wait to start shopping for shoes!
