Romantic and Classic

It was important for me to find a dress that fit my personality, and this was it...classic, unique, and comfortable. I stopped looking as soon as I saw this dress. To me the color is a warm and creamy ivory (rather than tan) that I feel would compliment many skin-tones. The fabric felt rich and luscious and the dress is clearly well made, from the box it came in, the many layers that add dimension and style, to the actual, working buttons. A big plus for me was the pockets! The neckline is modest, yet romantic...my seamstress felt it was "sexier than what is typically popular these days" and was reminiscent of Victorian lines. The interior corset added to a secure and flattering fit, but was comfortable to move and dance in. The bow is larger but in no way is it overwhelming. The size 6 fit me perfectly #I'm usually a size 2 at Anthropologie#, though it needed significant hemming, which was a bit costly due to the number of layers. Thankful for those layers, as I was married in November...didn't feel the chill at all. I felt elegant and beautiful in this gown, and received many, many compliments and felt this dress fit the mood of the wedding completely. So very happy I found it.

Simple Elegance

I was the first person to buy this dress when the BHLDN store opened up in Houston and I have not stopped receiving compliments on it! From the fabric, to the delicate buttons, to the details in the dress's shape, every friend, seamstress and store clerk has oogled over this dress wondering where I could have gotten it.
It has the simple feel of true elegance. It's not overstated but it has all the necessary parts of an excellent dress. It fit perfectly and I felt gorgeous in it. The dress is off white, which was perfect since I wanted a vintage mountain chateau feel at my wedding and it gave my straight frame a nice shape.

Stunning Vintage Style

Less than a week ago I got married in the sweeping taffeta ball gown, and it was breathtaking! I don't think I could have found a better dress for the elegant-antique sense of style we were seeking for our wedding day. One guest asked if I was wearing a vintage dress! I paired it with a antique Art Nouveau necklace and a parasol, and added a vintage brooch to the center of the bow. Perfect!
In particular, I adored the color and feel of the silk material. I have very pale skin and red hair, and the dark cream color was stunning with my complexion. The lightweight silk caught the sunlight, and moved and draped beautifully.
The details of this dress are wonderful. The real buttons down the back--real buttons!--are gorgeous, and the bow in front provides the perfect extra flair. And I was thrilled to find a great dress that isn't strapless!
In the end, this dress withstood an entire day of outdoor photographs and ceremony in the wilds of Yellowstone. Despite walking along unpaved paths through sand, gravel, sagebrush, and wildflowers, the dress held up astonishingly well, and looked crisp and beautiful all the way through the reception.
Are there any downsides? Well, due to my short figure the size 2 dress needed about a ten inch hem and shortened straps, but that would have been the case with any dress. If you are planning to get married outdoors in a hot climate, be advised that the many layers of the skirt will trap in heat (sort of like ski pants). For our mountain wedding location, this counted as an advantage. All in all a great choice, and I hope to post one of our photographs soon!

Definitely THE one!

This is a beautiful gown! The color may turn some away but the overall structure and construction of the dress is amazing. It has a built in bra and lots of layers to give it that true ball gown effect. The fabric feels lovely and has a nice sheen. About the bow...not too big...not too small...just right!

Stunning

Just received a few dresses including this one. The packaging was beautiful and the dresses were hardly even wrinkled. This dress is gorgeous!! I am usually a size 8 at Anthropologie but I am very curvy especially in the bust so I ordered a 10. It fits so well...is so flattering and beautifully made. The bodice has just enough structure to give you a beautiful shape without feeling confining. The neckline is so pretty and the bow makes this dress!!! It actually makes my chest look smaller and I feel that I will be so comfortable in it. I love the color!!!! I will have to have it shortened since I am not 10' tall but I expected that.

Absolutely perfect!

My mother, sister, and I all squealed with delight as we opened this gorgeously packaged gown. It is all I wanted, and even surpasses by expectations. Firstly, a few reviewers state that the dress is "tan". While not a bright white, the taffeta has a warm, luxurious, natural ivory hue that feels very vintage and VERY bridal! The 7th and 8th images of the dress depict the true hue very well. It is the exact hue of my flower girl dresses, which is a welcome bonus. It's also perfect for my olive complexion and dark hair. I am rather short and very curvy, and this dress definitely accentuates my assets and drapes so very well. It will need to be hemmed quite a bit but that was to be expected. I love the bow, the straps, the gorgeously detailed back - everything. I am very well endowed and was worried about showing too much cleavage and do not have that problem at all with this dress! I am as pleased as punch!

Gorgeous--but not quite right

I adore the style and shape of this gown. However I decided to return it--the color is definitely tan, and not what I associate with bridal. Also, it definitely shows cleavage (more than alterations can fix). If you are OK with the color and are smaller chested (or don't mind showing off your bosom), then this would be a great dress.

Perfect gown for my wedding day!

I purchased a wedding dress over a year and a half before my wedding thinking it was "the one." Well it wasn't... and when I first got word that Anthropologie was launching BHLDN I resisted getting interested because I knew I would be abandoning my first dress for one featured in BHLDN's first collection. My prediction was correct, because the moment I laid eyes on the Sweeping Taffeta Ballgown gown I knew it was the one I wanted. I had some initial difficulties with backordering and shipping but BHLDN customer service was amazing and I would recommend a gown from them based on that alone.
The gown arrived in an adorable square box and from the moment I took it out and put it on I was in love- it was just as gorgeous in person! I agree with another commenter that the color and shape are more true to the longer haired model than the model with the hat on her head. It is definitely a "vintage cream" color and will suit people whose skin is very fair (like mine) and gets washed out by pure white.
I ordered the dress two sizes too big in order to have extra fabric to make small sleeves. I believe the dress runs pretty true to size though, because the size 12 dwarfed my size 8 frame and it eventually had to be taken in three times because I was a size 4 by the time the wedding rolled around. Only one word of warning, this is NOT an easy dress to alter. My seamstress said that she has never seen a dress so intricately sewn in the back and that if she didn't know any better she would have thought the dress cost a lot more as a result.
Overall I could not have been happier with this gown and how beautiful I felt in it on my wedding day. People are STILL talking about how unique and beautiful my dress was weeks later. It is the perfect combination of vintage and modern and is "princess like" without being too over the top. I am overjoyed to have been a BHLDN bride and I couldn't have imagined wearing any other dress on my wedding day.

Gorgeous and unique

This dress is the first one I eyed when I started looking at wedding dresses online, and after trying on dozens in boutiques, I ordered this one and it's the one. The light beige with pink undertones color is unusual (the long haired model photos look more accurate color-wise) and really lovely. I have dark hair and look better in browns and pinks than yellow tones, so I found this color more flattering than traditional ivory, which has a yellow undertone. It's a unique color that still looks like a wedding color, but if you're looking for a more traditional shade it might not be for you.
The fit is true-to-size. I wear an 8 at Anthro on BHLDN's size chart and it fit perfectly other than the hem length and straps. I'm short-waisted and will need to have the straps shortened a few inches to fit petite proportions. It has a nice formal gown feel without having an extra full skirt, and the A-line cut is flattering over wide hips. The bow is a good size in proportion to the skirt. I have an hourglass figure and found the dress overall very flattering (and was thrilled to find something nice with straps!)

Absolutely beautiful, but you need the right skin tone for the color

I was obsessed with and stalked this gown online for months before finally buying it; and it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The fabric was so nice and expensive looking/feeling, and the shape and fit was pretty good. (Although it was a bit long; I ordered a size 2 and am 5'7" and definitely needed to wear heels with it.) Don't listen to the other reviewers who say the bow is too big; it's not too big and it's what makes this dress unique and stylish. Unfortunately, the other reviewers are correct about the color being dark. I thought it was a lovely color and it still looks like a wedding gown color, but it has a slight yellowish tint to it, so it didn't go with my pale skin tone and blonde hair. The color washed me out for sure. I do think, however, that if you have dark hair and a darker or more olive-colored skin tone, that this dress would be perfect for you. I remorsefully returned the gown; I had hoped that this was the one. But don't let this or other reviews about the color turn you off; this gown could definitely be "the one" if you have the right skin tone/hair color for it. It's beautiful!

I like the dress, but definitely didn't love the color

The color is a strange color-almost a shade of tan. liked the top of the dress but the bow was so much bigger once I saw the dress in person. The bow is almost a silly size.

Just what I was looking for

I have tried on about 30 gowns in search of the "perfect dress." I was hesitant because it is a mere $100 out of my budget but pulled the trigger and I am so glad I did.
1. BHLDN, your customer service is simply amazing. I ordered my dress on Thursday at 12:30 and my dress was in my hands from the UPS man at 3:00 on Friday. I could not be more pleased or excited (just ask the UPS man - I squealed like a little girl). The women I spoke to on the phone to order the dress were kind and helpful - and had my order saved when I had to call again because my credit card company put a hold on my card.
2. The Dress - The fabric is beautiful and supple and just as pictured. It fits TTS. The color was perfect and exactly what I was searching for. The straps and waist line hit just in the right place. The dress is quite long but nothing that an experienced seamstress can't handle. The pleating at the bust is beautiful and intricate and hits in just the right place. The bow is a little bit bigger in person but not overwhelming.
I am so pleased with my purchase. Thank you so much for an amazing experience BHLDN and I can't wait to order more for our wedding day with you. Is it October yet??

Must be tall

I found this dress beautiful online. I thought for sure it would be the dress for me. Unfortunately, when I got it I was somewhat underwhelmed.
The color was as pictured (and beautiful!) but ended up being too dark for my skin tone, which made me look washed out. The taffeta was surprisingly light and thin, and I did not feel the quality of it justified the price. The dress was true to size around my waist and bust however, the dress was VERY long. I'm 5'8" and even in 6" heals I was still dragging a few inches of material on the floor. The straps were too long as well. This dress would have reqired quite a bit of difficult altering, and for the price I just didn't feel up to the additional cost.
The color was beautiful and it had good craftmanship. It hit my natural waistline and the a-line flattered my figure. It came beautifully packaged however, I was missing the return bag (the return instructions stated one should have been enclosed) and had to purchase one to return it. Unfortunately, this dress will not work for me. So I am returning it.

Nice fabric and color; very large bow

This elegant dress arrived perfectly packaged with few wrinkles. The color is as pictured: a gorgeous beige. The fabric is high quality and has a nice matte finish. It's also well-made. The skirt requires many layers to achieve volume so it's on the heavier side and may not be ideal for a summer wedding.
Unfortunately, the proportions were off for me. The buttons closed just fine, the straps were just right, and the A-line skirt was flattering; however, it seems the dress was made for less busty girls as the bodice fit strangely (I'm 34C, 33" bust, and ordered a size 0). The ruching gave my bust an almost pointy shape. Also, the bow was much larger in proportion to the rest of the dress, as compared with the picture -- looking almost comical on my short 5'1" frame. The dress also made a "swooshing" sound when walking as a result of tulle rubbing against taffeta, which bugged me but is standard for taffeta gowns.
Nice dress, but didn't work for me.

perfect!

I had to try not to tear the box open to get to the dress! They even package it beautifully. The bow seems bigger in person than in the picture but it added even more to the dress. The only annoying thing which is inevitable is how long it takes to close the back. But that is most likely any wedding gown. Don't think about it just buy this dress!

a dream come true!

This dress is absolutely stunning in person!
The color is a bit deeper than it appears int eh picture. The bow is off to the left side just a bit. The fabric is oh so soft. This dress is my dream come true! The dress is fully lined with layers of the soft taffeta, and a bit of tulle. There is a secure bra-type insert and the buttons really do button up the back.
The sizing is true to Anthro sizing. I wear a size 0 at Antrho, and the 0 fit like a glove! (With the exception of the length, but I expected it to be long. But a dress at this quality and price is worth altering the length a bit.) It felt like this dress was made for me.
Can't wait to walk down the aisle in it!
